After years of preparations a new exhibit about health and illness as experienced by native American cultures opened on the grounds of the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. Opening day activities featured speeches, tours, demonstrations of native dance, and the dedication of a healing totem pole placed outside the exhibit. Visitors will discover how Native concepts of health and illness are closely tied to the concepts of community, spirit, and the land.
